14 weeks!

Yesterday marked my 14 week point so naturally, we took a bump picture featuring a lemon this time. :)

We also just got back from a Memorial Day Weekend backpacking trip. Adam and I chose to hike around Ross Lake this time and could not believe how lucky we got weather-wise. It was gorgeous! On the way in we hiked a total of 16 miles to our first campsite called "Lightening Creek." We then decided to stay here an extra night and just relax, let our feet "de-sore" a bit, enjoy the scenery, and walk around the North part of the lake probably adding another 2 miles to our journey total.

On Sunday, our plan was to hike 10 miles back towards the car and stay at a site called "Roland Creek" to break up the 16 miles journey back to the car. Unfortunately, several people chose to either not get a backpacking permit or ignore the itinerary they decided on with the Ranger so when we got there, there were no campsites left and the next closest one would be 4 miles further down the road with no guarantee of a campsite. So, we took an hour lunch at Roland and decided to just head for the car so we wouldn't take anyone else's camp site. This meant another 16 mile day. I WAS EXHAUSTED but we made it all the way back to the car and the pups could not have been happier about that. :) In total we clocked in at about 34 miles.

Now a few of you might be wondering if it is safe for a pregnant lady in her second trimester to be trekking about the wilderness with 25+ pounds strapped to her back. To ease your worries, I checked with the doctor prior to going and got my instructions. I was to keep my heartbeat down to around the 130 range and my pack was supposed to be kept to around 20-30lbs. Check and check.

I even had my 14 week pre-natal appointment today so I was able to make sure the babe was doing ok. Doctor said that 34 miles probably wasn't the best choice but there was no problem with the backpacking. So, if Adam and I head out again, we will stick to a smaller route.

At my appointment I ran protein and glucose level testing, checked in with the doctor and used the doppler to check on the heart rate. Everything seems to be normal! The heart rate was pretty tough to hear today because I am still pretty early for the doppler but we heard it none-the-less as well as heard the baby moving around in there. Heartbeat was in the 150's, which made the doctor happy and she said it was nice that we got the hear the baby moving around. :)

My next pre-natal appointment is in 4 weeks for my 18 week then 2 weeks after that we have the anatomy screening and will finally find out gender...yay!
